La Nina has been very kind to ski resorts in Southern BC delivering above average (sometimes defined as epic) snowfall.
A little insider tip from last season. If you have ever dreamed of having you own ski runs, with your own snow, ski Kimberley midweek from February to season end. You’ll be rewarded with memorable days and sore legs.
For weekend warriors this winter, Northstar is offering a special Sunday feature- Late- Late Checkout 3PM. This means you can ski over half the day, ski back to your condo or townhome at Northstar, have a last soak in the hot tub on your deck, shower and freshen up, and then drive home. This takes the early Sunday hustle and bustle out of the equation and allows you to maximize your ski in Kimberley this winter.

GOT offers 1/2 day trail rides, full day trail rides which include a soak at the Dewar Creek natural hot springs, and evening trail rides which include a steak or spaghetti western dinner. Very exciting news last week. Integra Air announced direct non stop service from Edmonton to the Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC). This reduces an 8 to 9 hour drive to a 1 hour 20 minute flight over the majestic Rocky Mountains. The Service is being offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with options to expand based on demand.
The inaugural flight will be on June 15, 2011 and online booking should be available from today forward. Rates look very attractive, ranging from $189-$239 plus applicable taxes for a one way flight. They will start with 16 passenger jet service and have the capability to move to 32 passenger if demand dictates.
This is phase one of their expansion plans with the second phase to include continuing flights to Fort McMurray. In addition, conenctions with flights from Grande Prairie is also in the plans.
Not sure there are many places in Western Canada (or North America) where you can fly in and land 20 minutes from the quad chair of a major ski hill, within 25 minutes of 7 championship golf courses, and 30 minutes to great fly fishing and rafting. Northstar Mountain Village Resort is only 2 hours from the tarmac in Edmonton.

Being part of this community 52 weeks of the year, sometimes you forget how lucky you are to live here.
We had the luxury of going on a Snowmobile Adventure recently, it was more than we could have imagined. Not only were the staff knowledgeable and courteous, but the places that they took us to were completely breathtaking. The regular in and outs of the day in our mountain town tend to get very repetitive and tedious, and we forget why we choose to live in Kimberley, BC, especially during the long grey months of winter. La Nina has graced the back country with tons of snow, and had made the foothills and Rocky Mountain Trench a playground for snowmobiles. We enjoyed gliding across the valley of powder, going up and down the backcountry terrain, and taking in the breath taking scenery of the forest and surrounding mountains that I have not seen since my adventurous childhood.
Located in the regular office of Kimberley Raft Co, the Snowmobile Adventure Tours is a fully equipped snowmobiling company. Not only do they have the machines, but they have all the gear you will need for your outing. This includes a full snow suit, boots, mitts, and helmets and other proper winter gear! It is a fact that you can show up at their door with Bermuda shorts and sandals, and will be fully outfitted for the most extreme snowmobiling ride!
If you are tired of skiing, and dinner in an igloo is not your cup of tea, please consider our suggestion and try out a snowmobile tour. You will not regret your choice!

Wow! During our busiest ski week of the year, the snow deities have delivered again. A fresh 13cm of light fluffy Purcell powder has people on the mountain grinning from ear to ear. Spring skiing in Kimberley is shaping up nicely. More snow is in the forecast on Sunday and Monday. There are some great rates in March for 2 bedroom slope side units on the weekend, and attractive 7 night rate packages too.
